As an avid gamer looking for the best gaming mouse, you might’ve come across the terms „Claw Grip“, „Finger Grip“ and „Palm Grip“. These are all terms for (as you might’ve guessed) different mouse grip types that players have. As every player is different, this guide can help you identify which mouse grip type you use, and which mouse suits that type best!
What’s the Palm Grip?
The „palm grip“ is the grip type where your hand lies flat on the mouse. The movement of the mouse is done by moving your arm and not your fingertips as these lie flat on the mouse buttons. For this type of grip it always makes sense to pick a larger mouse with an asymmetrical shape. If the mouse you pick as a palm grip user is too small, a part of your palm will rest on the mouse pad and hinder your movement.
Best Gaming Mouse for Palm Grip:
As palm grip users should always go for bigger gaming mice, I would recommend the Razer Deathadder as a classic and very solid choice. If you want something fancier, grab a Zowie EC2 as it offers better hardware and especially a better sensor.
What’s the Finger Grip?
The „finger grip“ (or „finger tip grip“) is the grip type where only your fingertips actually touch the mouse. The rest of your hand hovers over the mouse’s surface. When using the finger grip, the mouse movement is mainly done by your fingers and lifting off the mouse quite often. This offers a very precise movement which is especially nice for CS:GO gamers.
Best Gaming Mouse for Finger Grip:
If you consider yourself a finger grip player, you should always aim for a smaller gaming mouse. This allows you to hover over the mouse with the palm of your hand (which would not be possible with a big gaming mouse obviously). The standard pick for finger grip gamers is the SteelSeries Sensei, which is a solid pick. Again – if you prefer something fancier, you should go for a Zowie FK1. With its flawless sensor it is a favorite among eSports pros (…that don’t need to follow any sponsor’s directions).
What’s the Claw Grip?
Now it’s getting extreme: When using the claw grip, your hand forms a claw (duh!) and grabs the mouse this way. Only your finger tips and the very back of your hand palm touch the surface of the mouse. There are many variations of the claw grip, most of them are not as extreme as in my photo. The claw grip is pretty rare as well, most pro players seem to prefer the finger grip or the palm grip.
Best Gaming Mouse for Claw Grip:
The best gaming mouse for claw grip users is quite similar to finger grip users: here you also want to go for a smaller mouse, preferably a symmetrical one. Very good gaming mice for claw grip players arethe Zowie FK1 and the SteelSeries Kana v2.
Summary: Mouse Grip Types
Always remember: which grip type you prefer for your gaming mouse is completely up to you and depends on your personal preference. There is no „best grip type“ for gamers as every one of us is different. Do not try to change your natural grip type because you see pro players using a different one! Just use the mouse grip type that feels best for you and pick your mouse accordingly.
